My family history..

my father sometimes just like to tell me again and again what happened when he was young.. so is last last thurs.. so I made used of that chance to ask him more about the older history.. about my great grandmother..

she was really from china but came to Singapre with her family.. her brother.. quite an accomplished family.. quite well-off.. her brother worked as cold storage manager.. imagine so long ago got supermarket already.. then she was married to malaysia then lived in a kampong.. that time my great grandfather was the village head.. then WWII takes place and my great grandfather with his buddies were caught by some japanese and there were no news about them already.. there were rumours that they were shot to death.. I never know this kind of sad story to happen to someone close to me.. my great grandmother becomes a widow.. they had a son who was my grandfather, my father's father..

My father and uncle came with great grandmother to Singapore.. to be able to receive education in Singapore.. my father and uncle has to sort of "adopted " by relatives in Singapore and their surname was changed from koh to that of their "new" family.. so I have the surname "Ho" now.. my aunt joined them in Singapore later.. actually they have a younger sister but she was given away after she was born.. and becos of delivering her, my grandmother passed away of difficult labour.. another sad story..

In singapore, my great grandmother had her second marriage.. who is the great grandfather that was still around when I am just a child.. when my father was young, he had to go school and helped great grandmother with work at the same time.. they worked in the cane factory.. earning very minimal.. they really had hardship in the past.. my father says "it's becos our older generations had suffer hardship that now, our generation can have a better life.."

From my father, I also know more about the other relatives we had.. the second wife of my grandfather, the god daughter of my great granddaughter.. "our family women really suffer a lot" my father said..

this is the most interesting history lesson I had..
